Let's cook
- Bring a large pan of water to the boil.
- Add the frozen edamame and bring back to the boil. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until the beans inside are tender when you squeeze one out and taste it.
- Drain well in a colander and shake off the water.
- Tip into a bowl while still hot and toss with the flaky salt, and the chilli flakes and lime zest if using.
- Serve warm with an empty bowl for the pods. To eat, put a pod between your teeth and pull it out, squeezing the beans into your mouth. Do not eat the tough pod.
Tips
- Toss them while hot and slightly damp so the salt sticks.
- They are also good cold, so leftovers make a good lunchbox snack. Keep them covered in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Swaps
- Garlic: toss the hot pods with 1 teaspoon vegetable oil and 1 grated garlic clove.
- Shelled edamame: use 300g frozen shelled beans, cook for 3 minutes and eat with a spoon or fork.
